First Peds Appt

Arriving at Kaiser for our first Pediatrician appt.

12/26: Our first time out of the house with all three babies! What a hectic morning! I was in charge of getting babies ready and Rob was in charge of packing us up and ready to go. He had the harder of the tasks because there is lots to pack to make sure we have everything!! It took us almost 2 hours to get out of the house!! We made it to Kaiser with plenty of time to check in and Rob dropped me off with the babies in their stroller out front. It's true...everywhere we go the stroller and the three babies will create a commotion! By the time Rob had parked and joined me, I had a crowd of people around me. The questions--geez--all I wanted was to get inside and on with our appt! I really didn't have time to deal with curious onlookers!! This appt is one wk before their 2 month appt so they asked us if we wanted to combine appts so that we did not have to return next wk! What a brilliant idea! Overall, the appt went very well!!! The babies have grown so much!!

Christmas Eve

12/24: We had a busy day today. Rob had to go to work for a few hours which meant that I had to take care of babies all on my own. It was scary but I survived! The babies are doing wonderful. Rob was back by 10am because we had an appointement. We had a State nurse come to evaluate Austin, Matthew and Emily. Brooke was wonderful! This is for the early intervention program. Great info!!

Important Updates:
Austin weighs 6 lbs 1 1/2 oz
Matthew weighs 6 lbs 13 1/2 oz
Emily weighs 6 lbs 11 oz

Happy Thoughts: Our Nutritionist signed us up Helping Hand for Special Kids Program through Mead Johnson. Today we received 3 free cases of formula from them! We were pleasantly surprised and it is very welcomed!! Our babies are on special formula for preemie babies made by Enfamil.

Surviving First Night

12/20: I am NOT going to lie--last night was rough! The previous night we had two babies and we totally had everything under control. Well, you throw one more baby into the mix and order ceases! We have realized that it takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to feed three babies AND they eat every 3 hours so you can do the math. No sooner do we finish one feeding, shut one eye and sleep for about 30 minutes and it's time to prepare for the next feeding! Craziness! Oh, and this is round the clock!! Anyway, the babies are doing great! Rob and I have not killed each other although Rob does get cranky in the middle of the night. We are still in honeymoon phase and still loving life and our new life with babies! Please keep us in your prayers as parenting is brand new to us and we have so much to learn!!

Triplets, 42 Days Old

12/16: Austin, Matthew and Emily had their eyes checked again this morning! Overall, this is a pretty traumatic experience for the babies as they have to use this little probe thingy to keep their eye open! Their eyes are testing "premature" still but looking good! We will have their 3rd eye appt in a couple weeks! Premie babies are watched closely for eye deficiencies! We had a great visit with the babies and held and cuddled them as we knew they had a rough morning!

Triplets, 38 Days Old

Birth Certificates X 3!!12/12: We got up extra early this morning. We wanted to go to the hospital early. The babies looked wonderful when we arrived! The boys are healing very well from their circumcisions. Big news today--Austin made it to 5 lbs thus catching up to Matthew and Emily! Emily had just eaten and was wide awake! She is usally the most alert after eating! She is just too cute for words! Dad held her first and then I held her for a little while but both boys had to be fed. So, I put Matthew to breast for about 5 minutes (until he got frustrated-milk too slow coming out!) and then I fed him and Dad fed Austin! BTW, my milk production is slowly returning--it's not quite where it was when the infection started but I have faith that it will get back up there! We were in the hospital for about 3 hours and then we left to go downtown to the Health Dept. We were so excited---we got our babies Birth Certificates! (Of course, we had to deal with Honolulu traffic!) We went and had a late lunch at Dave & Buster's. Later in the afternoon, the mailman dropped off a package. One of my Lockheed Martin collegues from our San Diego Branch sent us baby gifts. Carol made handmade crochet baby afghans for Austin, Matthew and Emily! They are so beautiful! Carol, THANK YOU! If that wasn't enough for a great Aloha Friday our next door neighbor Paula brought us yummy homemade Christmas cookies!! I think I gave myself a tummy ache eating too many! Thanks, Paula!!
Important Updates:
Austin weighs 5 lbs 1 oz (2304 grams)
Matthew weighs 5 lbs 9 oz (2512 grams)
Emily weighs 5 lbs 7 oz (2473 grams)

Carol's Afghans for Austin, Matthew and Emily! Absolutely Beautiful!!Paula's Christmas Cookies! They were so YUMMY!!

Triplets, 37 Days Old

Matthew NOT happy after today's event!
12/11: Today was quite traumatic for our boys! Austin and Matthew got circumcized!! OUCH!!! I was distraught all morning thinking about it! We headed to the hospital early and when we arrived, after scrubbing in, our boys were being brought back. They were sleeping! I thought for sure they would have been screaming but they were okay. I held both boys as long as I could and I just took turns holding them. They did cry when their diapers were being changed! They were given Tylenol for pain but this was a horrible sight for Mommy to see!! We lived through it and we are sure glad that it is over and the healing can begin! Emily was doing well today! Pretty as can be!! Oh, and today we had torrential rain here on Oahu! It rained and rained and rained!! There was lots of flooding.
Important Updates:
Austin weighs 4 lbs 15 1/2 oz (2256 grams)
Matthew weighs 5 lbs 6 1/2 oz (2456 grams)
Emily weighs 5 lbs 5 1/2 oz (2424 grams)

This was taken from the hospital parking lot.

12/10: Babies looked awesome today! They were very alert and were awake for a long time! We love spending time with all of them!! Today I woke up feeling so much better! I guess the meds are finally kickin' in! For the first time in a very long time I feel back to normal. It certainly does take a long time to recover from having babies but oh, so worth it! I felt so good I actually baked banana nut bread for our nurses and for our breakfast!!
